Bus Stop by William Inge.
In Bus Stop, the characters come face to face with themselves in a blizzard-bound diner in a little town thirty miles west of Kansas City.
"Inge is known as an acutely insightful chronicler of human life in all its stoic desperation and bittersweet promises. He wrote of people constantly struggling to connect--to themselves, to each other, to the painful places their lives had become. His characters are not larger than life heroes; they are ordinary people, people we know, people much like ourselves. They are people who can't help wanting what everyone wants -- to love and be loved, to set aside their aloneness, to truly find a home, not just for an hour or a night but for as long as it takes to find true happiness."
Auditions will be on Sunday Sept. 10 at 7:30pm, and Monday, Sept. 11 at 8:00pm. All auditions are at The Playhouse, 10 New England Ave, Summit.
CAST DESCRIPTIONS
- Elma Duckworth - 16ish, waitress, naïve bright high-schooler, full of dreams and drama.
- Grace Hoyland - 30-45, Runs the diner, Husband deserted her years ago and she's come to terms with life.
- Will Masters - 40-mid 50's, Sheriff, big, bearded? stern, means business but friendly.
- Cherie - 20's, chanteuse (singer,) pretty, confused, fragile, grew up too fast. She wears too much makeup, and is from the Ozarks. Her speech is southern.
- Dr. Gerald Lyman - 50+ glasses, graying, alcoholic, divorced 3 times, former professor, likes young girls.
- Carl - 30-50, bus driver in uniform, hearty, has seen just about everything.
- Virgil Blessing - 40's-50's, ranch hand, good-hearted simple cowboy, like a father to Bo, plays guitar a bit.
- Bo Decker - 25-35, ranch owner, cowboy, brash, impulsive, naïve, innocent and simple.
